The Site Redesign

tim

Based on the mail we're getting, you love the redesigned site. You like the new look and feel, the streamlined navigation, the more prominent search, and the ability to personalize your home page. Need a quick tour of how it's organized?

See our site guide.

Here's a review of the changes:

  • We integrated CD Online into the TechNet web site to make it easier to find all of our content in one place.

  • Made Search more prominent and powerful. It now scours the TechNet Web site and the comprehensive Knowledge Base, all in one stroke.

  • Streamlined and clarified the left navigation bar.

  • Simplified the home page design with more navigation and less text. Expanded the "I Want To:" box on the home page.

  • Integrated security content previously found on microsoft.com into the site.

  • Added a site guide, which describes what you'll find on our pages.

  • Added a site map, which lists the various sections and features.

  • Added "Send to a friend" email functionality and "printable version" download buttons to the article pages.

Au Revoir, Puzzler

In last month's column, I let you all know that the Puzzler is going on hiatus. After hearing from many of you, I'd like to say again, as clearly as possible, that the Puzzler is definitely coming back. So it's really not "Farewell, Puzzler" as I wrote in a headline last month, but "Until we meet again, Puzzler." I apologize for using imprecise diction. We're going to announce something really exciting shortly about the next round of the Puzzler, and are busily finalizing the details as you read this.

Millenial Questions

Confusion about the beginning of the millennium versus the 21st century seems perennial. Several of you savvy readers wrote in to clarify things: yes, I was right to state last month that the 21st century has started. And no, despite the belief in the popular press to which I succumbed, the Millennium itself has not yet started. I was wrong to use the term in the headline. Thank you for getting to the bottom of this and sending in comments.

As always, let me know your thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to make TechNet even better.
