Configure the Fax client component and send faxes on the server

The client computer component of the Fax service is automatically set up in Windows SBS 2008 after you install the Fax service. But in order to send faxes from your server that is running Windows SBS 2008, you need to configure the client computer component by using the following procedures.

Configure the Fax service and send faxes from the server

To configure the Fax service on the server

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

  2. Click Tools, and then click Fax Accounts.

  3. Click Add, and then click Connect to a fax server on my network.

  4. On the Type the fax server location page, type only a period (.) for the name of the fax server.

  5. On the Choose a fax server name page, type a name for the fax server, click Use by default for sending faxes, and then click Done.

To send faxes from the server

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

  2. Click New Fax, and then finish the wizard.

Install the Fax Mail Transport for Outlook 2007 users

If users need to send faxes by using Outlook 2007, you must install the Fax Mail Transport on client computers that are running Windows Vista.

To install the Fax Mail Transport in Windows Vista

  1. Open Outlook 2007: On the client computer, which is running Windows Vista, browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12, right-click OUTLOOK.exe, and then click Run as administrator.

  2. Click Tools, and then click Account Settings.

  3. Click New, click Others, click Fax Mail Transport, and then click Next.

  4. Restart Outlook 2007.
