Network Policy Server (NPS)

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

Network Policy Server (NPS) in Windows Server® 2008 and Windows Server® 2008 R2 allows you to create and enforce organization-wide network access policies for client health, connection request authentication, and connection request authorization. In addition, you can use NPS as a RADIUS proxy to forward connection requests to NPS or other RADIUS servers that you configure in remote RADIUS server groups. NPS also contains key components for deploying Network Access Protection (NAP) on your network, and can be deployed as a NAP health policy server.

Note

The Windows Server 2008 NPS Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 is now released. This MOM pack monitors the NPS service, NPS service availability, and any critical errors that occur on the NPS server by monitoring the NPS services event log. This management pack includes event rules for Internet Authentication Service (IAS). The events collected from the service indicate critical issues with NPS operations during deployment, imaging, and running jobs on remote Windows-based servers. The Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Network Policy Server management Pack for Microsoft OpsMgr 2005 is now available for download at the Microsoft Download Center at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128031.
