Protecting Farms Using Databases With SQL Server Aliases
Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2007
System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 SP1 extends DPM support for SharePoint to include support for SharePoint farm that uses SQL Server databases configured with SQL Server aliases. This additional support does not translate into any major changes in the procedure to protect or recover SharePoint data in DPM.
Warning
You can only use TCP/IP aliases.
Prerequisites
For farms using mirrored databases
You must configure SQL Server aliases on the front-end Web Server. All SQL Server aliases in the farm must be defined on the front-end Web Server. We recommend that you use one SQL Server alias per database.
Front-end Web Server must have SQL Server client connectivity components installed.
Note
If you do not define all the SQL Server aliases on the front-end Web Server on which the SharePoint VSS Writer is running, DPM will be unable to find the databases that uses these SQL Server aliases in the farm.
