what is the difference between windows 7 ultimate and windows 7 SP1? CAN WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE be upgraded to windows 7 SP1?

upgrade to windows 7 home premium from starter - failed

I bought netbook in uk with windows 7 starter and bought upgrade pack to windows 7 home premium at the same time. I am trying to install the upgrade in Australia - a download using th upgrade key i was given. But it failed and no help provided to fix it - except 'contact microsft'
