Updated: October 22, 2009

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

The Windows® Automated Installation Toolkit (AIK) is a collection of tools and documentation designed to help IT Professionals deploy Windows.

The Windows AIK is ideal for highly customized environments. The tools in the AIK enable you to configure many deployment options, and they provide a high degree of flexibility. The corporate deployment environment varies from one company to another. Depending on your business needs and resources, you may choose to use all or parts of the resources available in the AIK.

Download the Windows AIK tools from this Microsoft web site:(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=136976)

For the latest information about this release, see the Windows Automated Installation Kit for Windows 7 Readme.

Dual Layer Disks      ronrobe ... Thomas Lee   |   Edit   |   Show History
I use AIK to create a bootable disk which loads the Ghost program with a Ghost image as a backup/recovery disk. This works fine when using a standard DVD, but fails when using a dual layer disk. The disk is not bootable and I have a lot of coasters. Are there some settings to make a bootable dual layer disk that I've missed?

Corrupted downloads      PlateSpinner ... Thomas Lee   |   Edit   |   Show History
With a little searching, it's easy to see that LOTS of people are getting corrupted downloads from the KB3AIK.iso file. Just do a search for "startcd.exe not a valid win32 application".

I really wish Microsoft posted the MD5 checksum of the working file on the download page. When i finally download a copy that works, I'll try and remember to come back here post the checksum here.

broken down halfway?      carugoman   |   Edit   |   Show History
Halfway through the download provided (as a "fix" to a broken link,) the download hangs. This happened twice; once at 57% d/l'd and 58% d/l'd on the second try. I'm not so sure if I wish to try the "third time is the charm" trick, eh? Your thoughts, please?

For some reason, the link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=136976 lead to a Bing search telling that there are no content.

Am using the latest IE, a norwegian one, reading this webpage in US English.
