Management tools, such as the DNS Microsoft Management Console snap-in, use the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) protocol to communicate with and manage the DNS Server service.

Resolve

Restart the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service

The Remote Procedure Control (RPC) service did not respond to requests from the DNS server. The RPC service must be started by restarting the computer.

To restart the computer:

  • On the DNS server, click Start, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.

Verify

Ensure that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running.

To verify that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running:

  1. Open a command prompt. To open a Command Prompt window, click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
  2. At the command prompt, type net start, and then press ENTER.

If the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is functioning properly, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) appears in the list.
