Remove a mailbox policy from Exchange Online for Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows

You can remove a mailbox policy from Outlook on the web (formerly known as an Outlook Web App mailbox policy) and the new Outlook for Windows using either the Exchange admin center (EAC) or Exchange Online PowerShell.

Note: Don't remove the built-in mailbox policy named OwaMailboxPolicy-Default.

Use the EAC to remove a mailbox policy for Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows

  1. In the EAC, go to Permissions > Outlook Web App policies, select the policy that you want to remove, and then click Delete Delete icon..

  2. In the confirmation window that appears, click Yes to remove the mailbox policy, or click No to cancel.

Use Exchange Online PowerShell to remove a mailbox policy for Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows

To remove a mailbox policy for Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows, use the following syntax:

Remove-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity "<Policy Name>"

This example removes the mailbox policy named Sales Associates from Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows.

Remove-OwaMailboxPolicy -Identity "Sales Associates"

How do you know this worked?

To verify that you've successfully removed an Outlook on the web mailbox policy, do any of the following steps:

  • In the EAC, go to Permissions > Outlook Web App policies and verify the policy is no longer listed.

  • In Exchange Online PowerShell, run the following command to verify the policy is no longer listed:

    Get-OwaMailboxPolicy
