Moving a Domain Controller to a Different Site

Updated: February 28, 2009

Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2

This topic explains how to use the Active Directory module for Windows PowerShell to move a domain controller to a different site in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

The following example demonstrates how to move the domain controller Fabrikam-DC2 to the site HQ in the Fabrikam.com domain:

Move-ADDirectoryServer -Identity Fabrikam-DC2 -Site "CN=HQ,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=FABRIKAM,DC=COM"

For a full explanation of the parameters that you can pass to Move-ADDirectoryServer, at the Active Directory module command prompt, type Get-Help Move-ADDirectoryServer –detailed, and then press ENTER.
