Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 supports both computer-based and device-based clients. The features available to individual users depend on which server roles are deployed, how the administrator configures user accounts, and which client and/or operating system is running on the user's computer.

For both internal and remote clients, the certification authority (CA) certificate chain for the Communications Server 2007 R2 deployment must be accessible for validation by Authority Information Access (AIA), Certificate Revocation List (CRL), and Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) validation. Additionally, the root or intermediate CA certificate must be trusted and available, meaning that it must be either pre-installed on the client computer or accessible over AIA by the client computer.
