Optional Configuration

Applies To: Operations Manager 2007

Business Critical monitoring raises aggregated alerts when there is a substantial week-over-week increase in the number of problems detected. You can change the alerting levels for the management pack by overriding the alert rules. For more information and for instructions on how to override a rule, see How to Monitor Using Overrides (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=117777) in the Operations Manager 2007 Help.

The management pack does not raise alerts for minor degradations in the health of individual computers. To examine the health of individual computers, use the computer’s health explorer.

Reports use aggregations in the reporting server to optimize the rendering of the reports. For descriptions of the reports contained in this management pack, see Appendix: Reports.

In Windows 2000 operating systems, the Logical Disk object is not enabled by default, so no performance data is gathered. If you want to gather logical disk performance data, you must enable the Logical Disk object.

Enable Logical Disk Object

  1. On the client computer, click Start, click Run, and then type cmd.

  2. At the command prompt, type diskperf -yv and press ENTER.

  3. Restart the computer for this change to take effect.

In the Windows 7 management pack, the items in the following list are disabled by default. You can enable the items for an individual Windows 7 computer by adding the computer to the All Business Critical Windows 7 Clients group.

  • Performance data collection

  • Event collection

  • Alerts generated by rules

  • Alerts generated by monitors
