Device manager says
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I can remove the device, but after reboot or "scan for hardware changes" when the drive is found, it still has the same error.
This is on an eMachines system; the drive is described by Windows as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH40F SCSI CdRom drive. (I'm pretty sure it is a SATA device).
"Check for solutions" gives no response.
I am having the same problem. I tried deinstalling SP2 but it didn't fix the problem. \\tfl - 07 10 09] Hi - and thanks for your post. You should post questions like this to the Technet Forums at http://forums.microsoft.com/technet or the MS Newsgroups at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/. The NVIDIA display panel extension cannot be created.
Possible reasons include:
Version mismatch. Reinstalling display drivers may solve this problem.
This pops up twice, then tries to show me the Nvidia display anyway,
Then another pop-up..
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Windows\System32\nvcplui.exe (Promotely standing for Nvidia control panel user interface)
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
So I'm guessing my nvidia graphics card is working on the computer, but the user interface is corrupted.
[tfl - 06 01 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Community content is not the appropriate place for technical support queries. Instead,
you should visit the Technet Forums at http://forums.microsoft.com/technet, where such posts are welcomed and where you stand a much better chance of getting your query resolved. Sorry if that's not the answer you wanted to hear.

I am sure that SP2 is causing this problem as I have removed it using System Restore and the problem disappears. After reinstalling SP2 the problem reappears. Reinstalling drivers for the hardware does not solve the problem.
If I connect the wireless reciever to a USB port on a PCI card as opposed to ones on the mother board the problem does not occour, however this is not convenient as the keyboard is not recognised when the computer starts and so Windows will not load.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have the same issue -- my mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (USB, wired). I updated to Microsoft's new driver (version 7) and the behavior did not improve.
--------------
same problem.
--------------
Same problem (ljp93105). My system is Vista 64-bit. I have to unplug the USB hub from the computer to get the peripherals to come back.
--------------
Same problem (fullsink18). Razer Mouse and Keyboard. Vista 32-bit. I noticed this after updating to sp2
Same problem. Sidwinder mouse. Vista 32-bit. Just after updating to sp2.
