Reinstall Windows SharePoint Services

Problem   Windows SharePoint Services is still not working after you finish the procedures in the following topics:

  1. Repair the Windows SharePoint Services Domain Name System

  2. Repair user access to the internal Web site

  3. Repair user access to Windows SharePoint Services

  4. Repair the Windows SharePoint Services database

Solution   If you uninstalled Windows SharePoint Services, the database content was not removed, so you can automatically restore the content by reinstalling Windows SharePoint Services. If the internal Web site was working before you uninstalled Windows SharePoint Services, you do not need to do any additional configuration after you reinstall Windows SharePoint Services.

To reinstall Windows SharePoint Services

  1. Browse to C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\CMPNENTS\WSS.

  2. Double-click setup.exe.

  3. On the User Account Control page, click Continue.

  4. Read the license agreement. If you accept the terms, click I accept the terms of this agreement, and then click Continue.

  5. Click Basic installation. The installation begins.

  6. When the installation is complete, click Close.

  7. The SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard appears. Click Next.

  8. Click Yes to restart the services, and then click Finish.

    If you receive an error message in Microsoft Internet Explorer, ignore the message and close the Internet Explorer window.

  9. Open Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl\, find the entry named: NT Authority\NETWORK SERVICE, and then, if needed, change the value from 0x0 to 0x1.

  10. Add the bindings to the SBS Web Applications by doing the following:

    1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

    2. Navigate to the name of the server that is running Windows SBS 2008, and then click Sites.

    3. Right-click SBS SharePoint, and then click Edit Bindings.

    4. In the Site Bindings dialog, click Add, and then enter the following information:

      1. In Type, click http.

      2. In IP address, click All Unassigned.

      3. In Port, type 80.

      4. In Host name, type companyweb.

    5. Click OK.

    6. Click Close to close the Site Bindings dialog.

  11. If you have not done so already, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=200037) and then download, and install Windows SBS 2008 Update Rollup 4 (KB979454) on the server.

  1. If the internal Web site was not working before you uninstalled Windows SharePoint Services, do the following in the order listed:
