Updated: June 18, 2009

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

Use the Add Connection dialog box to create a custom connection to a database.

Element Name Description

Connection name

Type an easily recognizable name for the connection, such as Sql Staging Server.

Database provider

Select the name of the server that hosts the database from the drop-down list. For example, to connect to a SQL Server 2005 or 2008 database, select System.Data.SqlClient.

Server

Type the name of the server that hosts the database.

Database

Type the name of the database.

User ID

Type the user name to use to connect to the database.

Password

Type the password for the specified user name.

CautionCaution
Settings for IIS DB Manager, including DB Manager connections, are stored locally as part of your user preferences for IIS Manager. Thus, if you create a connection locally on a server and later connect to that server by using the IIS Manager that is on a remote computer, any changes you make to the connection will be stored on the computer that you are using, and not on the server where you first created the connection.
