Configuring the SQL Backend Servers

The following prerequisites are required on the SQL Server back-end servers:
Prerequisites for SQL Server
If you are running Windows Server 2003 and have installed Knowledge Base article 940349, then you must install at least Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack (SP1) or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with SP4.
Note
DPM supports Standard, Enterprise, Workgroup, and Express Editions of SQL Server.
Important
You must start the SQL Server VSS Writer Service on computers that are running SQL Server before you can start protecting SQL Server data. The SQL Server VSS Writer Service is turned on by default on computers that are running SQL Server. To start the SQL Server VSS Writer service, in the Services console, right-click SQL Server VSS writer, and then click Start.
