Coexistence Issues

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

The following items are coexistence concerns that will affect how you plan your Office Communications Server 2007 R2 migration and deployment:

  • Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Edge Servers cannot communicate with internal Office Communications Server 2007 servers.

  • Because the back-end database schema has changed with Office Communications Server 2007 R2, you will need a new SQL Server instance for each Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise pool. An existing back-end server can host an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 back-end database, but performance may be affected if multiple databases are collocated.

  • Outside Voice Control (Call Control Server or CCS) requires Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Mediation Server.

  • Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Monitoring Server, and Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Archiving Server, will not collect data from conversations that are hosted on Office Communications Server 2007. Similarly, Office Communications Server 2007, QoE Monitoring Server, and Office Communications Server 2007, Archiving and CDR Server, will not collect data from conversations that are hosted on Office Communications Server 2007 R2. If you are required to support QoE monitoring, archiving, and call data recording, the existing QoE Monitoring Servers and Archiving and CDR Servers must remain operational until the Office Communications Server 2007 pools have been deprecated.

As noted previously, Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Monitoring Server, will not collect data from traffic that is hosted on Office Communications Server 2007; however, for Enterprise Voice coexistence, Office Communications Server 2007, Mediation Server, may need to be associated with the 2007 R2 release of the Monitoring Server. To do so, you must download and run the script Associate.vbs on a machine that has the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in. The script and usage instructions are available for download from “Associate Office Communication Server 2007 or Office Communication Server 2007 R2 Mediation Server with Office Communication Server 2007 R2 Pool” at lhttps://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=145133.
