Configuring Group Chat Servers

Topic Last Modified: 2012-02-08

The Group Chat Server Configuration Tool is used to configure both individual Group Chat Server settings and pool-wide settings. To change configuration settings, open the Group Chat Server Configuration Tool, and from the File menu, click Configure Server Settings.

The left navigation bar of the server configuration window contains a series of buttons that open corresponding views of the Server Configuration Tool. If the Lookup service, the Channel service, and the Web service are installed locally, the following buttons are present:

  • System Wide
  • Machine Wide
  • Channel Server
  • Lookup Server
  • Web Service

If the Compliance service is installed locally, the following buttons are present:

  • System Wide
  • Compliance Server

By default, the server configuration window opens with the System Wide view. In the System Wide view, the Compliance tab is available only if the Compliance service is installed on a computer in the pool.

Use the Group Chat Server Configuration Tool to change the service accounts. Click the Change button to the right of the Running label to change the service account. This button enables you to change the credentials that the Lookup Server, Channel Server, or the Compliance Server services run as. If your new account does not have the Login As Service local policy permission, it will be granted to the new account.

The credentials on the All Channel Servers and All Lookup Services tabs (accessed on the File menu, and clicking Configure Server Settings) specify the accounts the servers will present to Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to connect. This does not have to be the same as the accounts that the services run as.
