This topic describes the operating systems and database management systems that are supported for running Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition.

Supported Operating Systems

One of the following operating systems is required for all roles of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition, including Archiving Server, Monitoring Server, Director, Communicator Web Access, Group Chat Server, Mediation Server, and Edge Server:

  • The 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Standard, or the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition with Service Pack 2 (SP2), or Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition with SP2

  • Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition with SP2, or Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition with SP2

Supported Back-End Server Databases

The following list of supported database management systems applies to the Office Communications Server Back-End Database and to the Archiving, Monitoring, and Group Chat databases:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise or SQL Server 2008 Standard (32-bit or 64-bit edition)

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition with SP2 or SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2 (32-bit or 64-bit edition)

Note

A 64-bit version of SQL Server is recommended.

Note

The only SQL Server database collation supported for Group Chat is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS.
