Device Update Service Error Messages

Error Message Resolution/Comment

Incorrect time format. Please specify the time using the 24 hour clock (HH:MM)

This error occurs when you attempt to configure logging and provide the time of day in an incorrect format. Type the time again, using 24-hour time in the form HH:MM. HH (00 to 23) is the number of hours that have passed since midnight, and MM (00 to 59) is the number of full minutes that have passed since the last full hour. For example, 15:22.

Failed to read the device updater data from host machine

This error occurs when Device Update Service is unable to read the data from Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). Permissions may not be configured correctly, or Device Update Service may not be installed correctly. Ensure that the permissions have been configured correctly, as described in “Accounts and Permissions Requirements” in the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Planning and Architecture Guide. If permissions have been configured correctly and you continue to get this error, reinstall Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (Standard Edition) or re-run the Enterprise Pool Wizard (Enterprise Edition).

Duplicate found and duplicates are not allowed

This error occurs when you attempt to add a test device, and the device name already exists as a test device or the same identifier is in use for another test device. Add the test device again, and use a unique name and identifier.

The data you have entered is incomplete, Unable to save Test Device information

This error occurs when you attempt to add a test device without specifying the test device name or identifier. Add the test device again, and specify both a name for the device and an identifier, either the device Media Access Control (MAC) address or its serial number.

Character is not a valid hex character

This error occurs when you attempt to add a test device and the MAC address that you provide includes a non-hexadecimal character, which is not valid. You probably typed the MAC address incorrectly. Add the test device again, ensuring that you use the correct device MAC address.

Name is longer than the maximum number of characters allowed

This error occurs when you attempt to add a test device and specify a name that is longer than 50 characters. Add the test device again, providing a shorter name of 50 characters or less.

Log days value is not in the specified range or input format is incorrect

This error occurs when you edit log file settings, and you provide a value other than a number between 1 and 365 in the Keep log files for [ ] days box. Change the entry to a number between 1 and 365.
