Web Query Server for Mobile Devices for Office Communications Server 2007 R2

In enterprise environments, Address Book files can get too large to be reasonably downloadable by mobile clients, such as Office Communicator Mobile (2007 R2 release). To better target the needs of mobile clients, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 introduces a parallel path for Mobile Address Book data: The RTCAB database, and the Address Book Web Query Service which is queried on-demand by mobile clients.

RtcAb Database

The RtcAb database resides on the same SQL machine used by the Standard Edition (co-located SQL Express) or Enterprise Edition (dedicated SQL Server Back-End). The Address Book Web Query Service resides on the Office Communications Server Web Components Server (typically co-located on Front-Ends).

Address Book Web Query service for mobile clients

The RtcAb database contains a small subset of the fields contained in the standard Rtc database accessed by ABS. It also contains a DTMF field to enable efficient lookup of contact information based on alphanumeric or touch-tone character sequences entered by end-users on mobile client keypads. For better availability during Address Book generation/updates, this database has 2 partitions: an active partition and a secondary partition.
