Restoring a Communicator Web Access Virtual Server

Topic Last Modified: 2009-02-27

After you create a configuration file, you can use that file to restore a virtual server to the same computer that it was exported from. This procedure assumes that the virtual server to be restored no longer exists on the computer. If the virtual server still exists, the import process will fail. Communicator Web Access does not allow you to overwrite an existing virtual server.

Note

In theory, you can import the configuration file to any computer. However, much of the information saved to the configuration file (for example, IP address and certificate names) are specific to a given computer. You can import the configuration file to a different computer, but you then need to use the Communicator Web Access snap-in to modify computer-specific settings.

To import a configuration file

  1. Log on to the computer that will host the new Communicator Web Access virtual server. To import a virtual server configuration file, you must be logged on as a member of the local Administrators group and the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

  2. On the Start menu, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Communicator Web Access.

  3. In the console tree, right-click the name of the computer that will host the imported virtual server and then click Import Configuration File.

  4. In the Office Communicator Web Access Import Wizard, on the Welcome page, click Next.

  5. On the Choose Source Location page, select the file to import by doing one of the following:

    • To import the default file, click Next.
    • To import a different file, click Select to display the Open dialog box. In the Open dialog box, select the file to be imported and then click Open. On the Choose Source Location page, click Next.
  6. On the The Import Wizard successfully imported the configuration settings page, click Finish.
