Prepare the Perimeter Network

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Before you proceed with installing Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Edge Server, your perimeter network must be configured to support it.

To prepare the perimeter network, do the following

  • Verify that your infrastructure is prepared to support Office Communications 2007 R2, Edge Server. If it is not, take the necessary steps now. For details see Infrastructure Requirements for External User Access in the Planning and Architecture documentation.

  • Verify that all existing Edge Server settings and configuration options are documented.

  • Back up the configuration of the existing Edge Servers as described in the Office Communications Server 2007 Backup and Restore Guide at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=145520.

If your plan is to continue to support your existing Edge Servers for your Office Communications Server 2007 deployment and to deploy Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Edge Server, for the new pools, you will need to prepare a new infrastructure before you install the new Edge Server.

To prepare a new infrastructure for Office Communications Server 2007, Edge Server, see Set Up the Infrastructure for Edge Servers in the Deploying Edge Servers for External User Access documentation.
