Move services to a new server or farm (Office SharePoint Server 2007)

Applies To: Office SharePoint Server 2007

This Office product will reach end of support on October 10, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see , Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Use these procedures to move the following Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 services from one server or farm to another:

  • Document Conversions Launcher service

  • Document Conversions Load Balancer service

  • Excel Calculation Services service

  • Office SharePoint Server Search service

  • Windows SharePoint Services Help Search service

  • Windows SharePoint Services Web Application service

Some reasons that you might want to move services to another farm or server include the following:

  • Balance service load across multiple servers.

  • Move the entire server farm to a new location.

  • Replace the current server with new equipment.

When you move services to a new server, the service that you select stops running on the current server and starts to run on the newly added server.

Note
When you stop the Office SharePoint Server Search service in the process of moving it to another server, it deletes the index files permanently and makes them unrecoverable. The index files are also not available for all other Shared Services Providers (SSPs).
