Configure searches to return blog post results (Search Server 2008)
Updated: April 16, 2009
Applies To: Microsoft Search Server 2008
Unless otherwise noted, the information in this article applies to both Microsoft Search Server 2008 and Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express.
Search Server 2008 can crawl and index blog Web sites so that users’ queries include results from blog posts. By default, blogs that are in the default content source are automatically crawled and available for searches. Blog posts can also be added to existing Web site content sources. You can create a separate source for the blogs you want to index. When creating a content source there is no option specifically labeled for blogs. Search service administrators need only to select the Web sites option when they create a content source for blogs.
You must be a search service administrator to perform this procedure. For more information, see Add or remove a search services administrator (Search Server 2008).
To configure a search to return blog post results
Use this procedure to create a content source for Web sites that contain blogs.
Configure a search to return blog post results
On the Search Administration page, under Crawling, click Content sources.
On the Manage Content Sources page, click New Content Source.
On the Add Content Source page, in the Name section, in the Name box, type the name that you want to use for the content source.
In the Content Source Type section, click Web Sites.
In the Start Addresses section, in the Type start addresses below (one per line) box, type the URLs of the blog Web sites that you want the search system to crawl.
For performance reasons, you cannot add the same start addresses to multiple content sources.
In the Crawl Settings section, select the crawl behavior you want for this content source.
In the Crawl Schedules section, specify when the crawler should perform full and incremental crawls of these sites.
