Microsoft Search Server 2008 is built on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and therefore has all of the capabilities of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. This includes the ability to create Web applications and sites for storing content. The articles in this section describe the authentication methods that are supported and how your implementation of them can affect crawling. If you use Search Server 2008 for crawling or federating content, you can use the guidance in these articles to help you plan authentication for your Search Center.
