When should I remove a computer?

You may want to remove a computer from the Windows Home Server Console for the following reasons:

  • The computer is no longer connected to your network, or it is no longer physically present in your home. For example, you may replace an old computer with a new one, or a member of your family may take a computer with them if they move out.

  • You have already connected 10 computers to Windows Home Server, and you want to add another one. You can connect only 10 computers at one time to Windows Home Server.

Warning

All existing backups for a computer are deleted if you remove it from the console.

If you want to stop backing up a computer, but keep it connected to your network, you can turn off backups instead. See Turn On Backups / Turn Off Backups. The computer remains in the console, but Windows Home Server no longer attempts to automatically back it up each night.

Important

If at any time you want to associate your home computers with a different server that is running Windows Home Server, you must reinstall the Windows Home Server Connector software on each home computer.
