Uninstall Exchange Server

You can remove Exchange Server after you disable the mailboxes, remove the offline address book, and remove the Public Folder Databases. To remove Exchange Server, complete the following tasks:

  1. Create a registry key that enables you to remove the Exchange Server management tools.

  2. Uninstall Exchange Server.

  3. Delete the MSExchange ADAccess registry key

  4. Uninstall Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server.

Create a registry key to remove the management tools

Complete the following procedure to create a registry key that enables you to remove the Exchange Server management tools.

To create the registry key

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then, in the Open text box, type regedit.

Warning

Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on the computer.

  1. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\V8.0\AdminTools.

  2. From the Edit menu, click New, and then click String Value.

  3. Type the name ConfiguredVersion.

  4. Double-click ConfiguredVersion, and then in the Value Data field, type the same value as the data value for the UnpackedVersion registry key, which is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\V8.0\AdminTools.

  5. Close the Registry Editor.

Uninstall Exchange Server

To uninstall Exchange Server

  1. Open Control Panel, and then, in Programs, click Uninstall a program.

  2. On the Uninstall or change a program page, select Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Uninstall.

  3. In the Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard, on the Exchange Maintenance Mode page, click Next.

  4. On the Server Role Selection page, clear all of the server role check boxes and clear the Management Tools check box, and then click Next.

  5. On the Readiness Checks page, after the checks are finished, click Uninstall.

  6. On the Completion page, click Finish.

Delete the MSExchange ADAccess registry key

You must delete the MSExchange ADAccess registry key to inform the system that Exchange Server is not installed.

To remove the MSExchange ADAccess registry key

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then, in the Open text box, type regedit.

  1. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\.

  2. Right-click MSExchange ADAccess, and then click Delete.

  3. Close the Registry Editor.

Uninstall Forefront Security for Exchange Server

When you integrate Windows SBS 2008 with Exchange Online, you do not need Forefront Security for Exchange Server (FSE) on your server. Complete the following procedure to remove FSE.

To uninstall Forefront Security for Exchange Server

  1. Ensure that the Forefront Server Security Administrator is not running.

  2. Click Start, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  3. At the command prompt, type the following command:

    net stop iisadmin

  4. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

  5. Stop the FSCController service.

  6. When the service is stopped, close the Services dialog box.

  7. In Control Panel, open Programs and Features.

  8. Remove Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

  9. On the Uninstall Complete page, click Finish.
