Definition of unsupported in this scenario
"Unsupported" in this case refers to inplace upgrades. Anyone who has a qualifying licence (XP, Vista) is entitled to purchase an Upgrade Edition of Windows 7, but would have to clean install.

[tfl - 16 04 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. How do I back up just my files, like all my games, pictures, movies, etc. on my existing Windows 7 32-bit and then re-run installation to switch to 64-bit? I'm making the change so I can upgrade the ram in my laptop and it will recognize it.

[tfl - 28 02 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Upgrade to professional frome home premium
I have used the Windows Anytime Upgrade service to upgrade my new laptop from a home premium version to a professional version. the display comment said the upgrade would take from ten minutes. The laptop haas been on the :Preparing to configure windows- Do not turn off your computer: for almost two hours now. is this common? has it frozen? how long should it take? If it takes this long just preparing to configure how long will the configuring take?? Thanks in advance!

[tfl - 28 02 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Install Windows 7 on mini laptop
how can I install microsoft windows 7 upgrade on a dell mini laptop that does no have an optical drive and has XP installed

Most of your mini laptops cannot run any type full version Windows 7. They don't have the processing power and this is why they are shipped with Windows 7 Starter. The mini's are introductory computers to laptops. They are not as powerful as laptops and are really used for checking email and a little word processing. Also, to answer your other question, you need to get a usb optical drive to run your CD/DVD's.

[tfl - 28 02 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. Can I use Anytime Upgrade to downgrade?

My employer has licensed Windows 7 Enterprise for a few years now, but financial circumstances have forced us to cut back our support contract with Microsoft. We're now only entitled to run Windows 7 Professional. Is there any way to quickly downgrade from Enterprise to Pro? Can we simply enter a new activation code? Our current process is to run an "upgrade" from Professional media. It's pretty ugly. I was hoping there was some method of just flipping a switch instead.

[tfl - 28 02 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. how can i upgrade from Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate
hi,

can anyone help me on how can i upgrade my windows home basic to windows ultimate, i'm using Dell 1440 Inspiron. Could that go with Windows 7 Ultimate? Please help, because seems like i'm not happy with Home Basic, there is this frequent "display driver has stopped working and has recovered" error appearing. I just installed a Samsung Kies application also, if that is causing the error, would upgrading to Ultimate solve the problem? Thanks.

[tfl - 28 02 12] Hi - and thanks for your post. I still have not seen a definitive answer to this question. I own a copy of Vista Ultimate. I'm currently running Win 7 Ultimate RC. I ordered the Win 7 Home Premium upgrade from Amazon. XP Professional Volume Licensing
One of my larger customers uses XP Professional volume licensing which essentially uses a single XP license across multiple machines. How will they be able to upgrade the machines using this single serial number to Windows 7? It is my understanding that the Windows 7 upgrade license ties itself to the XP serial and deactivates the serial. Perhaps I misinterpreted this.

[tfl - 13 08 09] Hi - and thanks for your post. You should post questions like this to the Technet Forums at <mtps:InstrumentedLink NavigateUrl="http://forums.microsoft.com/technet" runat="server" xmlns:mtps="http://msdn2.microsoft.com/mtps">http://forums.microsoft.com/technet</mtps:InstrumentedLink> or the MS Newsgroups at
<mtps:InstrumentedLink NavigateUrl="http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/" runat="server" xmlns:mtps="http://msdn2.microsoft.com/mtps">http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/</mtps:InstrumentedLink>. Unsupported Upgrades
If you read the supported/unsupported operating systems that are unable to perform an upgrade including having Windows 7 RC. It is this type of bull-*** that i wish to get a MacBook Pro. I am also glad to know i am not the person that feels this way about Microsofts customer relations. I pray that Google will some day wipe Microsoft off the map.
