If you have shared services enabled in the corporate portal site and you have My Site set up to use My Site profiles, you use the portal site to host personal sites by default. This makes all personal site links in the other portal sites redirect users to a person’s My Site profile when a people search is performed; for example, https://www.contoso.com/MySite.

Or, when you specify a personal site provider, you can use a separate portal site to host personal sites. After you specify a personal site provider, all users who access personal sites on the current server are automatically redirected to the server that you specify.

Membership in the Viewers SharePoint group on the Shared Services Administration site is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Membership in the Farm Administrators SharePoint group is insufficient to perform this procedure.

Use this procedure to configure the hosting location for personal sites.

Configure the hosting location for personal sites

  1. On the Shared Services Administration Home page for the Shared Services Provider, in the User Profiles and My Sites section, click My Site settings.

  2. On the My Site Settings page, in the Personal Site Services section, in the Personal site provider text box, type the URL of the site collection that is to host the personal sites.

  3. Click OK.
