Free disk space on the Exchange mailbox logical disk volume has exceeded the threshold
Topic Last Modified: 2009-05-28
The amount of free disk space on the Exchange mailbox logical disk volume has exceeded the threshold. System performance may be adversely affected and the ability to add or modify existing files on the logical disk volume may not be possible until additional free space is made available.

Explanation
The Logical Disk Free Space monitoring routine is a configurable solution that enables operators to set varying threshold values for Exchange disks that store Exchange databases. In addition, separate threshold values can be set for Warning and Error states.
Since logical disk volumes may vary in size from a few gigabytes to many terabytes or more, the Logical Disk Free Space monitoring routine requires that an operator indicate both the megabyte and percentage-based threshold values that must be passed before the Warning and Error thresholds are reached. This means that for the threshold to be reached, both the megabyte and percentage-based threshold values for the mailbox database drive must be reached.
The default threshold values for the Logical Disk Free Space monitoring routine include:
Mailbox Drive Free Space Thresholds (Defaults)
Parameter | Default Value |
---|---|
Mailbox Drive Error Mbytes Threshold |
1000 |
Mailbox Drive Error Percent Threshold |
5 |
Mailbox Log Drive Warning Mbytes Threshold |
2000 |
Mailbox Drive Warning Percent Threshold |
10 |
Please note that overrides can be used to change any of the threshold values that are defined above. In addition these thresholds can be applied to all Exchange logical disk volume instances in the management group or, if needed, separate threshold values can be defined for specific Exchange logical disk volume instances.
Note that the warning thresholds must always be greater than the error thresholds for the monitor to function correctly.
User Action
To resolve this error, do one or more of the following:
Delete any unnecessary files from the disk.
Move data that can be safely moved to another location.
Add disk capacity to the server.
If the disk that is specified contains mailbox or public folder database files, consider changing the limits on your databases.
If the disk that is specified contains mailbox or public folder database files, consider moving large mailboxes or public folders to a different database or a different server that has more disk space available.
If the disk that is specified contains storage group log files, consider running backups more frequently.
