Embed client in OS image

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2

Another way to deploy the client to new machines or machines that are going to have their Operating System upgraded is to embed the client in the OS image that is going to be deployed. In order to do this, the client must be installed on the machine that is going to act as a master for the operating system image that is going to be deployed. The only special precaution that needs to be taken is that no protected documents must be accessed or created on the machine prior to extracting the OS image as this would trigger client activation. Since, once activated, the RMS client lockbox is only valid for the client it is created on, the activation process will have to be done after the clients are deployed. As the client activation is done automatically and transparently on first use, no special tasks need to be performed on the client once the image has been deployed.
