Checklist: Deploy your federation server farm on legacy versions of Windows Server

The following checklists include the deployment tasks that are necessary to create the first AD FS federation server in a new farm, create the second federation server, and then join the second federation server to the farm running on legacy versions of Windows Server.

1. Install the AD FS software and AD FS 2.0 hotfixes on the computers that will become federation servers.

2. Configure the AD FS software on one of the computers to act in the federation server role. Follow this procedure to create the first federation server in a new farm.
