Applies to:  SharePoint Server 2013

note Note:

This documentation is preliminary and subject to change.

Warning Warning:

To configure a hybrid SharePoint environment, you need a combination of expert skills and significant hands-on experience with SharePoint Server 2013, SharePoint Online, and related products and technologies. We recommend that you engage Microsoft Consulting Services to provide technical guidance and support during the design and deployment of your hybrid environment.

For more information about Microsoft Consulting Services, see Microsoft Services.

Your external list or app for SharePoint will send requests for external data to Microsoft Business Connectivity Services (BCS) in SharePoint Online just as it would in a SharePoint 2013 Server implementation. And just as in a SharePoint 2013 Server implementation, BCS will broker all communication with the external system and the external data source. However, unlike a SharePoint 2013 Server implementation, BCS in SharePoint Online needs additional information to establish the connection to the external system and the OData source. This configuration information is provided in a SharePoint Online connection settings object.

Important Important:

This is Step 7 in the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario deployment procedures.

Prerequisites

Before you begin this procedure, make sure you have the following:

To configure the connection settings object for the BCS hybrid scenario

  1. Open the SharePoint Online Administration Center by using an administrator account, and on the Quick Launch, click bcs.

  2. Click Manage connections to on-premises services.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Give the connection settings object a name.

    Important Important:

Keep track of this name; you will use it when you create the external content type in Create and configure the external content type for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario.

  5. In the Service Address box, type the URL of the OData service endpoint that you created in Create and configure an OData service endpoint for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario.

  6. For this scenario, select the Use credentials stored in Sharepoint on-premises as the authentication option, and then type the name of target application ID that holds the group to account mapping. In this scenario, it is ODataApp that you created in Create an on-premises Secure Store Service target application for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario.

  7. In the Authentication Mode drop-down list, select Impersonate Window’s Identity.

  8. In the Internet-facing URL box, type the external URL with the /_vti_bin/client.svc extension. For example https://hybridexternal.sharepoint.com/_vti_bin/client.svc.

  9. In the Secure Store Target Application ID box, type the ID of the target application that holds the Secure Channel certificate. For example SecureChannelTargetApp.

  10. Click Create.
