Import the BDCM file into SharePoint Online BDC Metadata Store for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario
Applies to: SharePoint Server 2013
Topic Last Modified: 2013-12-18
Summary: How to import an external content type as a BDCM file into a SharePoint Online Business Data Connectivity service (BDC) Metadata Store.
|This documentation is preliminary and subject to change.|
When you import a BDCM model into the BDC metadata service, you are creating an external content type. This external content type is available for tenant-wide use.
To configure a hybrid SharePoint environment, you need a combination of expert skills and significant hands-on experience with SharePoint Server 2013, SharePoint Online, and related products and technologies. We recommend that you engage Microsoft Consulting Services to provide technical guidance and support during the design and deployment of your hybrid environment.|
For more information about Microsoft Consulting Services, see Microsoft Services.
This is Step 9.2 in the Business Connectivity Services hybrid scenario deployment procedures.
Before you begin this procedure, make sure you have the following:
The .bdcm file that you extracted in Extract an external content type to a BDCM file for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid Scenario.
An account with administrative rights to your SharePoint Online tenancy and administrative rights to the BDC Metadata Store.
|When you import the BDC Model file into SharePoint Online, you must be logged in to the SharePoint Online administrator site as a federated account (an account imported to Office 365 from On-Premise using Directory Sync). This federated account should also be given Global Administrator rights in Office 365. When importing the BDC Model to configure Hybrid BCS, certain calls are made to On-premise SharePoint Server 2013 that will require you use a federated user account. Be aware the account must also have a populated user profile in your On-Premise SharePoint Server 2013 farm.|
This procedure requires that all previous procedures in this scenario have been completed successfully, that the core hybrid infrastructure is working correctly, and that bidirectional communication between SharePoint Online and your on-premises SharePoint 2013 farm for hybrid is working. To import a BDCM file into the SharePoint Online BDC Metadata Store
Log on to your SharePoint Online tenancy by using an administrative account, and then open the SharePoint Online Administration Center.
In the Quick Launch, click bcs.
Under business connectivity services, click Manage BDC Models and External Content Types.
On the Edit tab, click Import.
Click Browse, and then browse to the .bdcm file that you exported in Extract an external content type to a BDCM file for the Business Connectivity Services hybrid Scenario.
Leave the default selections for File Type and Advanced Settings, and then click Import. During the import, BCS validates the XML in the model, queries the connection settings object, and connects to the on-premises OData source.
