Transferring Data from Databases

Topic Last Modified: 2013-06-23

After you’ve established connectivity to the Lync Online archiving and monitoring databases, it’s a good idea to transfer them for ease of reporting, long-term storage, or data modification if necessary. This section will focus on one way to initially transfer the databases using the SQL Import and Export Wizard.

This procedure describes how to use the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard to transfer a Lync Online archiving and monitoring database.

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and then Import and Export Data (64-bit).

  2. On the wizard starting page, click Next.

  3. On the Choose a Data Source page, enter the server name to connect to archiving data access (archive.xxxd.mgd.msft.net where xxx is the number for your domain) and then click Refresh.

  4. In the Database drop-down list box, select one of the databases to transfer (LcsLog_2400, LcsCDR_2400, or QoEMetrics_2400) and then click Next.

  5. On the Choose a Destination page, select a destination server in your environment to move the database to. Select a server and either select a database that’s already been created, or create a new one by clicking New, and then click Next.

  6. On the Specify Table Copy or Query page, click Next.

  7. On the Select Source Tables and Views page, select the checkbox next to Source and then click Next. This will select all of the tables and views in the database and will copy everything from the snapshot database.

  8. Click Finish and then Finish again to run the job immediately and kick off a transfer of the entire database. After the transfer is completed you’ll have a full copy of the database on your local SQL Server to run reports against, query against, or modify as needed.

See SQL Server Import and Export Wizard for more information on using the wizard.
