During Your Transition

Exchange 2013

Applies to: Exchange Online Protection

Topic Last Modified: 2013-09-03

On the day of your transition from Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) to Exchange Online Protection (EOP), your FOPE service will be placed in a read-only state. Placing the service in a read-only state allows us to take a snapshot of your existing settings so that we can transition them to EOP. Your FOPE anti-spam settings, anti-malware settings, FOPE Inbound connectors, Outbound connectors, and virtual-domain settings will be all moved to EOP.

During this time you will not be able to make changes to FOPE settings, but FOPE will continue to protect your email from spam and malware.

For more information about FOPE Admin Center access during and after your transition, see Exchange Online and Exchange Online Protection Service Upgrade - FOPE Admin Center Access.

After we have successfully moved your settings and policies, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to sign in to EOP. You will be required to update your MX record and on-premises smart host to route email messages for your domain(s) through the new EOP service. For informaiton on how to update your MX record and smart host information, refer to After Your Transition.

After you’ve completed these tasks you will be fully transitioned to EOP.
