The People Picker control is a central component of SharePoint Server 2010. The control provides basic functionality for finding and selecting users, groups, and claims to assign permissions on a site. The exact sources of those users, groups, and claims depend on the authentication method used by the web application that contains the site collection. For Office 365 Dedicated, both Windows classic authentication and claims authentication are supported.
