How to renew your Windows Azure Rights Management Service subscription

Topic Last Modified: 2014-01-29

As part of the Exchange Hosted Encryption (EHE) upgrade, you'll receive a subscription to Windows Azure Rights Management, which ends with your existing Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) agreement. When the following subscription licenses expire, you must purchase a new subscription of Windows Azure Rights Management, have an Exchange Online Protection Exchange Online or on-premises Exchange Server to continue to use the service.

Windows Azure Rights Management and Exchange Online can be purchased in the following ways:

  • Through License programs, including Office 365 Open channel and Enterprise Agreement. EOP can be purchased as a standalone subscription or as an Enterprise CAL (ECAL) or Exchange Enterprise CAL (EECAL) with Services subscription. To purchase your new EOP subscription in this manner, contact a Microsoft Advisor partner or authorized representative who’ll guide you through this process. After you’ve purchased your subscription, follow the steps in Activate your subscription with volume licensing.

  • Directly from Microsoft via the Office 365 portal. For information about purchasing EOP directly from Microsoft, contact a Microsoft Advisor partner or authorized representative, or follow the steps in Renew your subscription directly from Microsoft.
