Run a generic report from the Reporting workspace

Applies To: Operations Manager 2007 R2

Generic (or published) reports are automatically available in the Operations console after you install Operations Manager and the Reporting feature. You can configure them to meet the needs of your organization. Generic reports support the configuration of a report with prepopulated parameters. Generic reports are created and managed in the console. After you create them, you can access them in the Reporting pane, under Authored Reports.

To run a generic report

  1. In the Operations console, click Reporting.

  2. Select a report library (such as Microsoft Generic Report Library) in the navigation tree, and then click the report you want to run. For example, to create an Availability report, click Availability.

  3. Click Open in the Actions pane.

    The Report console opens.

  4. The information you need to complete in the Report Parameter area depends on the report you are running. For example, for an Availability report, you need to provide parameters for data aggregation, systems, and the status for which to report; for a Most Common Alerts event, you need to provide parameters for data aggregation and systems, as well as identify the event log file, event source, and types of events for which to report.

Complete the parameters for the report you are running.

  5. Identify the objects or groups from which you want to gather the report data.

To add a group, do the following:

    1. Click Add Group.

    2. In the Add Group window, you can search for a specific group by typing the name of the group in the Group Name field and then clicking Search. You can also list all available groups by simply clicking Search.

    3. In the Available items list, select the group you want to use (such as All Windows Computers), and then click Add.

    4. Click OK to close the window.

To add an object, do the following:

    1. Click Add Object.

    2. In the Add Object window, you can search for a specific object by typing the name of the object in the Object Name field and then clicking Search. You can also list all available objects by simply clicking Search.

    3. In the Available items list, select the object you want to use (such as the name of a specific computer), and then click Add.

    4. Click OK to close the window.

  6. Click Run to generate the report.

The report is now generated. Many reports include expandable sections or areas where you can drill into the information.
