RTCHost

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

RTCHost.exe runs on each Front End server and can be accessed through the Managed Server application programming interface (API) library. The following applications run inside the RTCHost.exe process:

  • The Client Version Filter enables the server to deny client connections based on a client’s version number. The Client Version Filter compares a client’s version number with the version settings specified by the administrator by reading the clients Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) User-Agent header. You can configure the Client Version Filter by using the Office Communications Server Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC).snap-in.

  • The RTC Aggregate application manages the multiple points of presence (MPOP) feature for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 by aggregating the presence information published by multiple client endpoints into one presence status that best represents the user's current availability. For details about the RTC Aggregate application, see Presence Components.

  • The Intelligent IM Filter helps prevent unsolicited marketing that targets instant messaging (IM) programs. The Intelligent IM Filter uses settings configured by the administrator to filter incoming instant messages received by the server from outside the organization’s firewall. You can configure the Intelligent IM Filter by using the Office Communications Server Management snap-in.

  • The Conferencing Server Factory is required for conferencing. For details, see Conferencing Components.

  • The User Pin Service authorizes dial-in conferencing participants that enter in a conference personal identification number (PIN) when joining a conference by using the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

  • The VoIP applications that run inside RTCHost.exe are the Inbound Routing application, Translation Service, and Outbound Routing application. Together, these applications enable the server to route VoIP calls. For details, see Voice Components.

  • The Exchange UM Routing component handles redirection of missed calls to Exchange Unified Messaging. For details, see Voice Components.
