Project Server 2007 Web Part performance
Updated: August 27, 2009
The Issues & Risks Web Part of the Project Web Access portal has an architectural issue that occurs when Project Server is located on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server farm containing more than 2,000 site collections. This results in a non-scalable multi-site query whenever a team member clicks to the main page of Issues & Risks in Project Web Access.
This architectural issue with the Project Web Access Issues & Risks Web Part can be mitigated by removing Project Server from the Office SharePoint Server farm and deploying Office Project Server 2007 on its own farm, or by removing the Issues & Risks Web Part from Office Project Web Access.
To maintain the ability to view a list of project-related issues and risks without using the Issues & Risks Web Part, create a custom report. A user name can easily create a custom report by using data from the Project Server Reporting Databases in combination with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services.
A complete guide to creating a custom report using SQL Server Reporting Services can be found here: Project Programmability – Scalable Issues & Risks Report
