Alert Name:   Excel Services Application save failed

Event ID:   3348

Summary:   The server for Excel Services Application is responsible for loading, refreshing, and recalculating workbooks, and maintaining user session state. The server for Excel Services Application failed to save a workbook file. Users may be unable to save their workbook changes.

Symptoms:   One or more of the following symptoms might appear:

  • Users may receive an error message that informs them that their changes cannot be saved while editing workbooks in their browser.

  • This event appears in the event log: Event ID: 3348 Description: Saving <URL of workbook> failed mid-save. [Session: <session ID> User: <username>].

Cause:   One or more of the following might be the cause:

  • The user’s permissions to edit or save files were revoked at the same time that the workbook was being saved.

  • The content database is unavailable and could not be accessed.
