SharePoint 2010

Applies to: SharePoint Server 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2010-02-11

Sets properties of a search service instance.

Set-SPSearchServiceInstance [-Identity] <SPSearchServiceInstancePipeBind> [-AssignmentCollection <SPAssignmentCollection>] [-ProxyType <String>]

The Set-SPSearchServiceInstance cmdlet modifies the SearchServiceInstance object.

Parameter Required Type Description

Identity

Required

Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Cmdlet.SPSearchServiceInstancePipeBind

Specifies the search service instance to set.

The type must be a valid GUID, such as 12345678-90ab-cdef-1234-567890bcdefgh, or a valid name of a search service instance, such as SearchServiceInstance1, or an instance a valid SearchServiceInstance object.

AssignmentCollection

Optional

Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPAssignmentCollection

Manages objects for the purpose of proper disposal. Use of objects, such as SPWeb or SPSite, can use large amounts of memory and use of these objects in Windows PowerShell scripts requires proper memory management. Using the SPAssignment object, you can assign objects to a variable and dispose of the objects after they are needed to free up memory. When SPWeb, SPSite, or SPSiteAdministration objects are used, the objects are automatically disposed of if an assignment collection or the Global parameter is not used.

noteNote
When the Global parameter is used, all objects are contained in the global store. If objects are not immediately used, or disposed of by using the Stop-SPAssignment command, an out-of-memory scenario can occur.

ProxyType

Optional

System.String

Defines whether crawler uses default, direct, or proxy connection parameters. Valid values are default, direct, and proxy. The default value is default.

The type must be a valid name of a proxy type, such as default.

--------------------EXAMPLE--------------------

Get-SPSearchServiceInstance -Local | Set-SPSearchServiceInstance -ProxyType proxy

This example sets the local search service instance proxy type to proxy.
