Users and Groups, Hierarchy Members Tab (Master Data Manager)

Use the Hierarchy Members tab to view or assign permissions to hierarchy members. These permissions are optional. If you do not assign permissions on the Hierarchy Members tab, the user can view or update all members for the model objects he or she has access to.

  • For users, permissions can be explicitly assigned or inherited from group memberships.

  • For groups, permissions are explicitly assigned.

This page contains two panes: Hierarchy Member Permissions and Hierarchy Member Permission Summary.

Only models for which you are a model administrator are displayed.

Permissions (Users only)

Select a view of the user's permissions. Possible views are:

  • User only: Displays permissions assigned explicitly to the user.

  • User and inherited from group: Displays permissions assigned explicitly to the user and those inherited from group memberships. If multiple groups overlap with each other or with the user's explicit permissions, duplicates are displayed in the list.

  • Effective: Displays the user's effective permissions, accounting for any combination of explicit and inherited permissions, as well as those inherited from ancestor objects within the model permissions hierarchy.

    NoteNote
You cannot edit permissions while viewing effective permissions.

Hierarchy Member Permissions

Use the Hierarchy Member Permissions pane to view and edit hierarchy member permissions.

Assigned permissions are inherited and cascade down the hierarchy from the closest ancestor. When you assign permissions to a hierarchy node, the members in all other nodes at the same level or higher are hidden from the user.
