How to alter the DPI for all users

This article applies to the following operating systems:

Windows® 7

Symptoms

One is unable to change DPI for all users.

Cause

With Windows 7, DPI is set per user. Despite DPI being set on a per user basis, you can alter the global DPI setting. The global setting has higher precedence than one set for a user.

Resolution

Log on as administrator and modify the following registry value.

Tip
This does require a reboot.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\Current\Software\Fontsset LogPixels=dword:<your desired DPI>
