Cache Control Rules Page

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista

The Application Request Routing (ARR) Cache Control Rules page displays the cache control rules that manage caching behavior. You can use the actions to create rules that control the ability to cache, cache duration, and caching content based on URL patterns or host names. Cache control rules are processed in the list from top to bottom.

UI Elements

Element Name Description

Cache

Displays whether or not to cache content based on the defined values for a cache control rule. When you add a cache control rule, select Cache or Do not cache.

Host Name

Displays the host name, for example https://www.contoso.com, where content will be cached based on a cache control rule.

URL

Displays the URL path where content will be cached based on a cache control rule.

Condition

Displays how a cache control rule will be applied, which can be either When no cache control directive exists or Always.

Cache Duration

Displays how long, in minutes, to cache the content specified in a cache control rule.

State

Displays whether a cache control rule is available for you to use to manage caching behavior. A cache control rule can be either Enabled or Disabled.

Actions Pane Elements

Element Name Description

Add

Opens the Add Cache Control Rule dialog box and lets you define the values for the cache control rule that you want to add.

Edit

Opens the Edit Cache Control Rule dialog box and lets you modify the values for the selected cache control rule.

Remove

Deletes the selected cache control rule.

Enable Rule

Enables the selected cache control rule so that you can use it to manage caching behavior.

Disable Rule

Disables the selected cache control rule. This action lets you keep the cache control rule in your list of rules, but will not use the rule to manage caching behavior.

Move Up

Moves the selected cache control rule up in the list. Cache control rules are processed in the list from top to bottom.

Move Down

Moves the selected cache control rule down in the list. Cache control rules are processed in the list from top to bottom.
