Installing Commerce Server 2002 Resources As Clustered Resources

You can install the Commerce Server 2002 Direct Mailer and Predictor resources as highly available clustered resources to take advantage of Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS). Installing Commerce Server resources on a MSCS cluster server provides high availability support. For example, during an operating system failover, you can configure the Direct Mailer and Predictor resources to fail over to another node in the cluster configuration.

This section contains the requirements and installation procedures to install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 resources as clustered resources.

  • Commerce Server 2002 does not allow automated electronic software distribution or silent installation for clustered resources.

Prerequisites

Before installing the DirectMailer and Predictor resources as clustered, note the following:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is required.

    • Advanced Server clusters can contain up to two cluster nodes and Datacenter Server clusters can contain up to four cluster nodes.

  • Install and configure the Microsoft cluster service for the nodes on which the Commerce Server 2002 resources will be installed. For information about installing cluster nodes, see "Installation and upgrading of cluster nodes" in Windows 2000 Help.

  • Allocate a cluster disk resource, and a unique IP address and network name for each resource that will be installed. You must choose an IP address and network name that is not already on the Network segment.

  • Point the cluster nodes to the server running SQL Server.

To ensure that the cluster node on which you are installing resources is hosting the cluster group

To install the Direct Mailer and Predictor resources as clustered

To install the resources on the second node of the cluster

To ensure that the cluster node on which you are installing resources is hosting the cluster group

  1. To open the Cluster Administrator, click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Cluster Administrator.
  2. If the other node is hosting the cluster group, right-click Cluster Group, and then select Move Group.

To install the Direct Mailer and Predictor resources as clustered

  • Each virtual server group represents one service.
  • If a leading 0 (zero) is entered during cluster setup of Direct Mailer or Predictor, the service will not start. For more information, see the Knowledge Base article "Ping and FTP Resolve IP Address with Leading Zero as Octal" available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=5593.

  1. After you install Commerce Server, if an MSCS cluster server exists, the Virtual Server Resource Group dialog box appears. In the Direct Mailer Virtual Server Resource Group dialog box, click Yes to create a virtual server resource group for Direct Mailer, and then do the following:

    • If the Direct Mailer resource is already installed on a node in the cluster, the fields in the dialog box will appear dimmed, and Setup will add the node as a "possible owner" to each resource in the Direct Mailer group.
    Use this To do this
    IP Address Type the Internet Protocol (IP) address for the Direct Mailer service.
    Netmask Type the netmask address for the Direct Mailer service.

    The netmask address should match the netmask used by the IP resource of the cluster group. For information about the netmask, see the "TCP/IP" topic in Windows 2000 Help.
    Network Name Type the network name for this resource group.

  2. Click Next.

  3. In the Predictor Virtual Server Resource Group dialog box, click Yes to create a virtual server resource group for Predictor, and then do the following:

    • If the Predictor resource is already installed on a node in the cluster, the fields in the dialog box will appear dimmed, and Setup will add the node as a ‘possible owner' to each resource in the Predictor group.
    Use this To do this
    IP Address Type the Internet Protocol (IP) address for the Predictor service.
    Netmask Type the netmask address for the Predictor service.

    The netmask address should match the netmask used by the IP resource of the cluster group. For information about the netmask, see the "TCP/IP" topic in Windows Advanced Server 2000 Help.
    Network Name Type the network name for this resource group.

  4. Click Next.

    The Commerce DirectMailer and CommercePredictor cluster groups are created on the cluster. The virtual IP addresses and network names are registered to the Domain Name System (DNS) computer configured by the network interface card (NIC). The virtual IP addresses are assigned to the specified NIC.

    • After you create the clustered resources, you can move them to another resource group after setup is complete.

  5. To begin the installation process, click Install.

  6. To exit the Setup program, click Finish.

    The PuP Packages window opens and displays the Blank Solution Site.

To install the resources on the second node of the cluster

  1. To open the Cluster Administrator, click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Cluster Administrator.
  2. Right-click the Cluster Group, and then select Move Group to install the resources on the second cluster node.
  3. For information about installing cluster nodes, see "Installation and upgrading of cluster nodes" in Windows 2000 Help.
  4. Repeat steps 1 – 6 above to install the resources on the second node of the cluster.

It is recommended that you restart your computer after installing Commerce Server 2002.
