Appendix A: Migration Data Collection Worksheet

Applies To: Windows Server 2003 with SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials

To ensure that the destination server functions correctly after migrating the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.0 SP2 server role, you can use this migration data collection worksheet to collect data about the source server. You can use Windows commands on the source server to identify the settings that are requested in the worksheet.

On the source server, open a Command Prompt window: click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

IIS customizations (optional)

Record any IIS customizations such as host headers or SSL certificates that are used by the source server that you want to use on the destination server, such as Host Headers, SSL, or Downstream Server Authentication. For more information about IIS and IIS Migration, see the following:

SMTP server password

If you are using an authenticating proxy, the e-mail notification feature to an SMTP server that requires a password, or both, manually configure proxy and e-mail notification to the SMTP server and enter the password on the new destination server.

Code signing certificate

For detailed instructions, follow the code signing certificate procedures in the Apply security settings to the destination server section.

Back up the code signing certificate if you are using an advanced management tool that exposes local update publishing, such as Microsoft® System Center Essentials 2007 or System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

Group membership

Record the users who are members of the WSUS server local security groups WSUS Administrators and WSUS Reporters. Manually set group membership on the destination server. Manually setting group membership is not necessary if Windows Server Migration Tools are used to migrate Local Users and Groups.

Firewall settings

If there is a corporate firewall between the WSUS server and the WSUS clients or the Internet, enter the firewall configuration settings.
