Step 6: Modify the Base Node

After the base node is deployed, you can modify it before an image is created from it. For example, you can install available updates or install an application that you want to run on all the iSCSI boot nodes, or you can add specific device drivers that are required by the iSCSI boot node computers.

If your compute nodes have more than 8 GB of RAM, you might consider disabling the paging file on the base node, before you capture the base node image. This can help prevent performance problems during the deployment of iSCSI boot nodes.

Note

  • Only perform this step if you need to customize the base node before its image is created for deploying the iSCSI boot nodes.
  • This is a good time to check for all available updates and to install them on the base node.

To connect to the base node

  1. In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, under Nodes, click a group that contains the base node.

  2. In the views pane, right-click the base node, and then click Remote Desktop.

  3. Type a user name and a password for an account that has administrative credentials on the base node, and then click OK.

  4. To connect to the base node, in the Current nodes list, click the base node.

  5. Perform any necessary changes and customization to the base node, and then log off the node.

To disable the system paging file on the base node (optional)

  1. On the base node, start Control Panel.

  2. In System, click Advanced system settings.

  3. Under Performance, click Settings.

  4. Click the Advanced tab.

  5. Under Virtual memory, click Change.

  6. In the Virtual Memory dialog box, do the following:

    1. Uncheck Automatically managing paging file size for all drives.

    2. Select the iSCSI drive, and then select No paging file.

    3. Click Set, and then click OK.
