Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

This topic provides guidance for troubleshooting issues when you are working with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) cmdlets.

The Add-Patch cmdlet does not run on a VMM 2008 server installed on a Windows Server 2008 computer

Possible cause (or causes)

Garbage collection is enabled on the server in the vmmservice.exe.config file.

Solution (or solutions)

Remove the vmmservice.exe.config file from the %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008\Bin directory, and then restart the Virtual Machine Manager service. You can then run the Add-Patch cmdlet.

After the Add-Patch cmdlet is finished running, you can re-enable garbage collection by moving the vmmservice.exe.config file back to the %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008\Bin directory and restarting the Virtual Machine Manager service.
